Dear Community,
The subdued hues of the landscape paint the knowing that late Fall has made its mark here in New England. Leaves dancing in the winds, barren branches, and a deepening dark arrived like breadcrumbs to mark the winter to come. Though the lands around the shop are tucking into deep rest, inside the shop projects, designs, and collaborations abound. A sweet hum grows inside as we continue to be blessed with growing interests, innovative projects, and inspiring designs. The team that makes Huston & Company run and hum is invaluable. We have a talented and committed group of individuals working day in and out to maintain the high standards and stability that our furniture offers.
All of us at the shop will take pause around the coming holidays to circle around the tables that unite each of our homes. We are wishing each of you time in the coming weeks to take pause, slow down, share presence and gratitudes with the ones near and dear in your life. May this include acknowledging all relationships, taking time to share gratitude with the lands where you rest, the beings who tended the lands, the bounty of offerings from the lands to feed and support your being, from yesterday, to today, and into tomorrow.

Dear Community,
Spring is undeniably upon us here on the shop land in Kennebunkport, Maine. The fields, hedges, and woods are wearing brilliant rainbows of buds and flowers, the airwaves carrying birdsongs, and the scent in the air revealing the possibility of worms once again moving freely in the dirt. Inside the shop projects, designs, and collaborations abound as well, of which we are deeply grateful and proud of the growing network and community that has been built. There is so much life upon us.
The abundance of Springtime life feels quite welcome and hopeful amidst the many shifts, changes, losses, rising tides, and instability in our world. From this corner in Maine, we are holding steady dedication to presence in our craft, to our people, our families, and the land we live upon by continuing to offer stability, care, and hope for a sustainable future.
This first quarter has been full of new vision, projects, and leadership. Perhaps the most notable of acknowledgements is the retirement of Bill Huston, Huston & Company’s founder (and my father). The shop was cleaned up, lights were hung, artistic charcuterie covered the workbenches, glasses clanged, and speeches shared to honor Bill Huston for his 35+ years of creation, connection, and dedication to and for Huston & Company. During that night his legacy was notably passed on. In the days, months, and probably years to come, Bill will continue to be a part of the shop in advisory and consultant roles. Huston & Company was so much more to him than merely a job or career. For those who know him or have had the opportunity to work or interact with him it was very clear that Huston & Company was a passion, and although he has officially retired I have no doubt that this passion will continue to thrive and bud into new and exciting opportunities for the company and for him personally. Dear Community,
As a small family business located in the state of Maine, we take pride in our local economy, culture, and relationships. We are devastated about the events that took place last week in Lewiston, Maine. Our love and prayers go out to all the people, families, and businesses impacted by the acts of violence. We are committed to creating, living, and sustaining relationships built on integrity, love, kindness, and compassion. May there be more ease and peace for all, in our communities, state, and world. Since we opened the doors to our furniture workshop in 1988, Huston & Company has remained committed to its founding mission: to design and build furniture that integrates function, form, and master-level craftsmanship in a style that is elegant, graceful, and enduring.
The hope with our newsletters is to keep you updated with the recent designs, projects, and people that keep us inspired and creating. Our shop focuses on two main categories of furniture: Institutions (Academic, Library, Corporate) and Residential. Both elements of the shop are represented in this newsletter to share with you the breadth of craftsmanship at hand. If our work inspires you to create in your home, workplace, or institution, we would love to hear from you. Read More…
