We have a great team working hard behind the scenes at Huston & Company. Each newsletter we have begun highlighting the people who tend to the various details to build the heirloom pieces. This month we are excited to introduce Josh Rice.

- How Many Years have you worked in the shop? 12
-
- What drew you to Huston & Co? How did you hear about the business? “I met a Huston & Company employee, Ethan, who encouraged me to apply, as I was self employed at the time. I immediately was drawn to the atmosphere of the business. Saer and Bill, being the people they are, created an atmosphere that was welcoming and professional. I also was looking to refine my Woodworking ability towards a “finer” and more quality level.”
-
- What aspects of your job do you like the most? “The people and environment of the shop and business is unmatched by other shops I have worked in. They are understanding, kind, encouraging, and extraordinary at what they do. Being able to not only create something from scratch with my hands everyday, but something completely new and different from piece to piece.”
-
- Are there skills used for your job at H & C that you are able to apply to your life outside of the shop? “Fine Woodworking comes in handy in all kinds of ways! In your own home, but also for other people and it is always so appreciated. Also being able to learn here from Saer and Bill and others, they all have taught new ways to teach my own children, family and friends.”
-
- When not building furniture, how do you fill your time? “My family and I love to be in the wilderness: hiking, paddling, climbing, fishing and being at our camp in the north woods of Maine. I enjoying fly fishing and the skills and adventure that come with it.”
-
- Favorite Hobby? “Drawing (pencil/charcoal sketches). Fly fishing and more recently rock climbing with my sons as they have really gotten into it.”
-
- Favorite song? “Hmm, there are so many. But maybe No Quarter or The Rain Song by Led Zeppelin…”
-
- Spirit Animal? “I do not know mine! Otter maybe?”
- Two Truths and One Lie:
– I lived in Bangkok, Thailand for 4 years.
– I have 3 children, all boys. 1 of which is 7 inches taller than me.
– I enjoy free jumping with a parachute from tall places.
