What is so special about Huston & Company furniture?

What is considered too difficult for other furniture manufacturers is customary workmanship at Huston & Company. Our standard features include hand-cut dovetails, mortise and tenon joinery, fully finished backs, and hand-rubbed finishes. Upon request, we incorporate granite tops, intricate inlay, contrasting wood pulls, and beveled glass. This level of specialization is simply not found in mass produced furniture.

When you order custom furniture, Huston & Company works closely with you to create that ‘perfect’ piece of furniture. We consider your lifestyle, functional requirements, and the interior style of your home or office. Following preliminary discussions, we create shop drawings to graphically illustrate your proposed furniture design for your review and approval. The result is furniture uniquely designed and built in the style, wood, and finish that you will enjoy for years to come.

What types of wood are available with Huston & Company furniture?

What type of finish is used on Huston & Company furniture?

After many years of experimenting with finishes, Huston & Company has established a standard finishing process that produces a highly durable, water-resistant, and easily maintained surface with a smooth satin sheen. Our beautiful finishes are the result of countless hours of sanding and preparation. Once we achieve a highly refined surface, we complete the process with a specialized acrylic polyurethane finish.

How does a customer care for a piece of Huston & Company furniture?

With a small amount of care your furniture will stay in premium condition, increasing in value as it develops a rich patina.

Our furniture has a lacquer-type finish that needs minimal care. Water and alcohol will not affect the finish and can be wiped up with a damp cloth. The finish is quite durable, but as with any finish, care should be taken to avoid scratching and abrasive materials.

For polishing your furniture we recommend only non-wax polishes such as Guardsman’s Furniture Polish, available at many hardware stores.

Wood changes color naturally from daylight. With some woods, such as cherry, 90% of the change in color occurs in the first six to twelve months. In the first few months the change can be so dramatic that if you leave a vase or coaster in the same position in direct sunlight, it will actually shadow the outline of the shape. Therefore, wait several months before leaving any object in a permanent position on your furniture. But, keep in mind, if you do have a shadow on your furniture, just leave it uncovered and it will all even out.

Hot items will damage the finish and should not be placed directly on the finished surface.Extremely hot items will cause damage even if used with a place mat. Therefore, extremely hot items should never be placed on the finished surface.
